Peaberry (PB) beans form when only one seed develops inside the coffee cherry instead of the usual two, resulting in a small, round bean with a more concentrated flavour profile. Koraput Peaberry is hand-sorted from the main harvest — a labour-intensive process that keeps volumes limited. The cup delivers heightened sweetness, a rounder body, and a brighter finish compared to flat-bean lots from the same origin. Priced between commercial and specialty, it offers compelling value for roasters wanting to create a distinctive single-origin or blend component. Available washed and natural.

What buyers say

"The Koraput Peaberry surprised us. We expected the typical Odisha profile — mild, clean, nothing remarkable. Instead we got noticeably more sweetness and a rounder body than the AA from the same harvest. We now offer it as a premium variant to our premium café accounts."

Vikram Achanta

Founder, Tata Coffee Grand (India)

"Indian Peaberry is still relatively rare in the Italian specialty market. The Koraput PB is our Indian origin feature this season — the story is compelling and the cup is sweeter and cleaner than I expected. Strong filter performance."

Elena Marchetti

Head Barista & Buyer, Orso Bianco (Milan)

"We compare peaberries from the same lot origin whenever possible. The Koraput PB versus the Koraput AA washed: noticeably more concentrated sweetness, more vibrant acidity, cleaner finish. Well worth the premium for a single-origin feature."

Aaron Davis

Roaster, Heart Coffee Roasters (Portland)

Peaberry coffee is one of the most misunderstood premium grades in the green coffee market. It is not a separate variety, not a different species, and not a processing method — it is a naturally occurring botanical mutation that happens inside the cherry on the tree. When the normal two-seed development fails and only one seed forms, that single seed grows round and dense, filling the entire interior of the cherry without the flat side that develops when two seeds grow against each other.

The result is a bean that is smaller, rounder, and significantly denser than the flat beans from the same origin. Because peaberries are more uniform in shape, they rotate freely in the roasting drum and receive heat more evenly across their entire surface — reducing the risk of uneven development that can affect flat beans, which have a curved side and a flat side that may receive different heat exposure.

Koraput Peaberry is hand-sorted from the same tribal-grown Arabica harvest that produces the AA and AAA commercial grades. The sorting is labour-intensive — peaberries are visually different from flat beans and must be identified individually — which is why PB lots are always limited in volume and priced at a premium. Only approximately 5% of any coffee harvest naturally produces peaberries, so from the same weight of cherries, you get far fewer PB beans than standard flat beans.

The cup difference is real: most roasters who cup Koraput PB alongside the flat-bean lot from the same harvest describe the peaberry as noticeably sweeter, with a rounder body and a more vibrant finish. It scores typically 2–3 SCA points higher than the flat-bean equivalent. Available washed and natural. MOQ 30 kg. Contact us for current seasonal availability — PB lots sell out significantly faster than the standard commercial grades.
